DEVELOPMENT EDUCATORS
Developmental Educators, or DEs, are qualified professionals specialising in disability. Recognised as allied health professionals, DEs can assist with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

Developmental Educators Australia Incorporated (DEAI) represents the unique and dynamic profession of Developmental Education.

DEs are skilled professionals who collaborate with individuals, their families, communities, and support networks. With a degree in disability studies, DEs are experts in understanding disabilities, effective support strategies, and legal and ethical considerations.
DEs work under a scope of practice and code of ethics and practice to maintain a high standard.

DEs are multi-disciplinary professionals who adopt a holistic approach to supporting people with disability. DEs prioritise health, well-being, and functional capacity through tailored person centred strategies that promote independence and enhance community participation. By collaborating with other professionals, DEs ensure a comprehensive, team-based approach that addresses each individual's unique needs.
While DEs focus on providing practical support strategies, DEs do not diagnose or treat health/mental health conditions.
DEs work with people with disability to promote inclusion and address attitudinal and environmental barriers through a diverse range of professional and technical skills.​​​​​
DEs expertise includes:

Developmental Educators Australia Incorporated (DEAI) oversees this self-regulating allied health profession, ensuring adherence to a Code of Ethics and ongoing professional development requirements.
